- Osmotische diurese: diabetes mellitus, mannitol- infusie, radiocontrastmedia, eiwitrijke sondevoeding
- Geneesmiddelen : diuretica, lithium, cafeïne
- Diabetes insipidus
- Hypercalciëmie, bijvoorbeeld hyperparathyreoïdie
- Psychogene polydipsie (bijv. Schizofrenie )
- Overtollige IV-vloeistoffen
- Chronisch nierfalen ( vroeg )
- Diuretische fase van acute tubulaire necrose ( ATN )
- Hypokaliëmie
- Posttransurethrale resectie van de prostaat
- Syndroom van Cushing
- Primair hyperaldosteronisme
- Onvermogen om urine te concentreren : sikkelcelkenmerk of ziekte, chronische pyelonefritis, amyloïdose
- Ongerustheid
