- Acuut stadium: malaria, reumatische koorts, Afrikaanse trypanosomiasis
- Myocarditis door andere oorzaken, bijvoorbeeld coxsackie, Rocky Mountain-gevlekte koorts, toxoplasmose, medicijnen
- Aritmie of congestief hartfalen door andere oorzaken, bijvoorbeeld sick-sinus-syndroom, coronaire hartziekte
- Toxische megacolon als gevolg van inflammatoire darmaandoeningen of met Clostridium difficile geassocieerde colitis
- Idiopathische achalasie
